About LEHS
LEHS is a registered society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, dedicated to providing fundamental health and education services to underserved populations. With a profound commitment to social welfare, LEHS has strategically developed innovative initiatives to address critical societal challenges, particularly in healthcare and education.
On October 2, 2013, through a pivotal board resolution, LEHS launched the Wadhwani Initiative for Sustainable Healthcare (WISH)—an India-focused project designed to revolutionize healthcare accessibility. The initiative’s core objective is to provide and facilitate access to capital, incubation, and advisory services for innovative, high-impact technologies and business models targeting the bottom of the pyramid in the healthcare sector.
The WISH program works to build an equitable, innovation-led ecosystem and aspires to transform the primary healthcare system to make quality services accessible and affordable to all Indian citizens. Under the WISH program, LEHS strives to provide a quality-compliant, fully operational healthcare delivery system through innovation and technology. The organization is built around the core values of Compassion, Respect, Innovation, Speed, and Perseverance (CRISP), contributing to improved health outcomes, thereby reducing the out-of-pocket expenses on healthcare for underserved populations.
The Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence, also known as Wadhwani AI, represents a specialized unit within LEHS dedicated to leveraging artificial intelligence to benefit underserved populations. This AI unit operates across multiple technical domains, including machine learning, computer vision, audio signal processing, and advanced data analysis. Each project undertaken by Wadhwani AI incorporates reusable technological components, maximizing potential impact and efficiency.
With a strong emphasis on social impact, Wadhwani AI unit is not just developing cutting-edge AI solutions but also championing the principles of open-source technology. The unit is committed to sharing code and data wherever feasible, promoting transparency, collaboration, and collective advancement in technological innovations to solve critical societal challenges across domains.
By integrating targeted healthcare initiatives like WISH with advanced technological capabilities through Wadhwani AI, LEHS demonstrates a holistic approach to social development. The organization continues to push boundaries, using innovation, technology, and strategic interventions to create meaningful, sustainable change for India’s most vulnerable populations.
LEHS|WISH believes in a holistic approach for bringing about systemic reforms designed to have a ripple effect from individuals to the community. LEHS|WISH has very successfully and effectively forged Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) with the government, private sector, innovators, and civil society, who constitute the healthcare ecosystem. Through this PPP model, LEHS|WISH brings financial and technical resources together to improvise the state’s public health system by integrating promising healthcare innovations. Partnerships with the government in the intervention states are the fulcrum of LEHS|WISH healthcare delivery model’s success and sustainability; and works in alignment with the healthcare priorities of the government to transform the healthcare system at the state level.

In view of LEHS|WISH’s commitment to align with the government’s agenda and work on health needs and gaps identified by the governments, it employs various customized models. For example, LEHS|WISH provides support to the Government of Rajasthan in direct implementation of primary healthcare delivery, while LEHS|WISH is a knowledge partner to Delhi Government, providing knowledge management support to Aam Aadami Mohalla Clinics (AAMC). Similarly, LEHS|WISH provides advisory services to the Governments of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam on primary health, digital monitoring of data, and capacity building in the primary healthcare ecosystem.
LEHS|WISH has played a key role in paving the way for the governments to transform the healthcare ecosystem in their respective states. The International Innovation Corps (IIC), University of Chicago, and LEHS|WISH are supporting the National Innovation Unit at the National Health Authority (NHA) GoI, and pioneered the roll out of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PM-JAY). The scheme aims to undertake path-breaking interventions to holistically address the challenges in healthcare system across the country.
LEHS|WISH’s efforts were acknowledged and rewarded by the GoI in October 2019, on the occasion of the first anniversary of PM-JAY, when NHA celebrated ‘Ayushman Bharat Aarogya Manthan’, inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan and presided over by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. At the meet, LEHS|WISH demonstrated its Swasthya ATM model that provides end to end inclusive gamut of care solutions to the last mile population. The model received acknowledgment and accolades from the Health Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, and was awarded the Best Start-up Innovation in Healthcare.
